2008 Pastel Studies
My investigation on systems of play and organization continues in these large scale pastel works. In this colorful series of works, I use game layouts inspired by Pac-man to create images that combined aerial landscapes with systems that explored ways of maximizing space within a given frame. These studies connect to earlier explorations of how the shape of layouts influences our interpretation of a place. I approached the Pac-man layout as a mapping of city life and movement, and as a design that both encouraged and limited our mobility through it.
