My work is an exploration of the systems of organization around us. I aim to relate these systems back to ourselves in order to reflect upon our current condition and the spaces that house us. In my recent game-counter drawings I focus on systems of ponderous play. I focus the process of play on creating meaning by mixing and matching, a process built on both the openness of the work and the viewers' interpretive agenda. Existing in the moment, play acts on instinct and promotes non-linear interpretations. My current work is made to offer the viewer an arena for this ponderous play to take place, and through it, to reflect on our current perspective of the world around us.
The game-counters have developed less into diagrams and more into visual spaces that use consistent proportions inspired by a small antiquated score-keeping device. Removed from the object, the form and proportions promote a system for mixing and matching, a space for the viewer to create relationships. These connections invoke the viewers ability to relate to abstracted forms reflecting emotions, actions, and subjects. The current progression of the work places less importance on the specific subject and greater emphasis on the self-reflective nature of the work.
